Common questions
Joylocks is a telemedicine company that provides a discreet, convenient, and affordable way for you to receive hair loss treatment from healthcare provider—all without leaving the couch. If you are interested in prescription treatment, it starts with an online visit. The online visit will ask you about your symptoms, your medical history, and other medical formulation. You'll also be asked to upload a photo of your ID to verify your identity. Once you have done all of this, healthcare provider will review everything to determine if you're a candidate for hair loss treatment through telemedicine and decide which treatments are (or are not) safe and appropriate for you. The hair loss treatment available through Joylocks is a compounded topical or a compounded capsule which includes finasteride and minoxidil.
We offer both a prescription topical and capsule formulation for men. The topical formulation includes prescription grade Finasteride 0.1%, Dutasteride 0.1% , Minoxidil 8% & Retinoic Acid 0.01%. The capsule formulation includes Finasteride 1.0 mg, Minoxidil 1.25 mg and Vitamin D3. Finasteride is clinically proven to help stop hair loss and regrow hair.
Minoxidil is an FDA-approved component of Joylocks topical hair loss treatment. The Minoxidil stimulates oxygen and blood flow to the hair follicles. This ingredient delivers much-needed nutrients directly to the hair follicles. It provide the following benefits:
- Slows hair loss
- Prompts hair follicles to produce hair again
- Clinically proven to show results in about 4 months for women and 2-4 months for men
- Lengthens the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle
- Revitalizes blood circulation in small blood vessels
- Produces thicker hair
Male pattern baldness (also called androgenetic alopecia) is a common form of hair loss. It is typically associated with a receding hairline and hair loss at the crown (top) of the head. Not all men experience male pattern baldness but some men are genetically susceptible.
Male pattern baldness occurs when hair follicles undergo a process called follicular miniaturization. This is when the longer, darker hairs that once grew on the scalp get replaced by thinner, shorter, less pigmented hairs. This process occurs as a result of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is derived from testosterone. Early on, it's possible to stop or even reverse this hair loss. However, at a certain point, the hair follicle also loses attachment to the small muscles in the skin (called the arrector pili muscles). When this happens, hair loss is permanent.
The underlying factor behind male pattern baldness is the hormone DHT, which originates from testosterone. Fortunately, there are remedies available that can decelerate hair loss or even restore hair growth.
In the initial stages, hair loss can be halted or even reversed. But, once the hair follicle becomes detached from the tiny muscles in the skin (known as the arrector pili muscles), it reaches a point of no return, and hair loss becomes permanent.
Generally, Finasteride and minoxidil necessitate daily usage for around three to four months to begin showing noticeable improvements. The maximum results may take up to a year to manifest. It is advisable to continue the medication for a full year, provided that you don't experience any side effects, before assessing its effectiveness. Everyone reacts differently to medications like finasteride and minoxidil. You need to persist with hair loss medication to maintain its benefits; otherwise, hair loss may recur.
The hormone responsible for male pattern baldness is dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is produced by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase when it interacts with testosterone. Finasteride operates by obstructing 5-alpha reductase's ability to convert testosterone to DHT. Lessing the product of DHT means less or no hair loss and possible re-growth.
